Indian Oil’s Panipat Refinery Secures ISCC CORSIA Certification

New Delhi, August 14, 2025: With an agenda of clean energy initiatives, the state-run Oil PSU Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has become the first entity in the nation to receive the prestigious ISCC CORSIA Certification for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production at Panipat Refinery. This certification acts as the primary objective for commercial SAF production and represents a significant advancement in the capability for the production, certification and distribution of SAF.

This milestone was marked by a special ceremony held at New Delhi, where M/s Cotecna formally handed over the certification to Mr. A. S. Sahney, Chairman, IndianOil, in the presence of Mr. Rohit Mathur, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) and Mr. Maneesh Kumar, Joint Director General, DGCA.

The event was also attended by senior officials from MoP&NG, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB).

The ISCC CORSIA certification (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification), which is developed under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), validates that SAF meets the highest international sustainability and lifecycle carbon emission standards.

The SAF production at Indian Oil Panipat Refinery has undergone rigorous assessment for lifecycle carbon emissions and traceability, and creates a clear pathway for Indian airlines to integrate certified SAF into their operations.

The certification will set a milestone for other domestic refiners and industry players to scale up SAF production, in line with the government’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

With this recognition, Indian Oil has reaffirmed its role in India’s energy transition, bringing India closer to a greener, cleaner aviation future.
