Indian PSUs Embrace Wellness: 11th International Yoga Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm

New Delhi, June 21, 2025 – Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) across India celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with enthusiasm. This demonstrated their commitment to employee well-being and holistic health. From power generation to mining and financial services, PSUs organized various events that brought together thousands of employees and their families to participate in yoga.

REC Limited Fosters Holistic Health  
REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, celebrated the day at its Corporate Office in Gurugram and all its Regional Offices. At the corporate office, employees participated in an early morning yoga session led by professionals from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga. International marathon champion and health coach Sunita Godara also attended and shared her insights on the benefits of regular physical activity and a disciplined lifestyle for overall well-being.

WCL's Grand Celebration Across 114 Locations  
Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) celebrated International Yoga Day with events across 114 locations, including areas and heritage sites like Ramtek Temple, Nagpur Zero Mile, Savner Eco Park, and the closed mine PK-2 in Pathakhera. Over 7,000 personnel, contract workers, and their dependents took part in yoga sessions. The main event at Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium in Umred included WCL CMD Shri J. P. Dwivedi as the Chief Guest. He practiced yoga with over 800 attendees and honored employees who shared their yoga videos on WCL's social media for public awareness.

In his address, CMD Shri J. P. Dwivedi stressed the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines to maintain a healthy mind and body. He noted that good health is crucial for contributing to national interests and explained how WCL supports national development through effective coal mining, sustained by health achieved through yoga. Dignitaries including Honorable MP Shri Shyamkumar Barve and Honorable MLA Shri Sanjay Meshram spoke to the gathering, sharing the benefits of yoga. WCL has launched several initiatives in recent months to promote yoga awareness among coal workers and their families.

NTPC Emphasizes "Yoga for Self and Society"  
NTPC Western Region-I Headquarters (WR-I HQ) in Mumbai celebrated the day at its Powai Township. Employees, their families, and residents participated actively. This year’s theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," resonated throughout the event. A certified yoga instructor, Ms. Anu, guided the session, which included asanas, pranayama, and meditation. Smt. Vandana Chaturvedi, Regional Head of HR (West-I), shared that “Yoga is not just a practice; it is a way of life that connects body, mind, and soul. At NTPC, we work to create a workplace culture that promotes professional excellence and personal wellness. Today’s celebration reminds us of our shared responsibility to nurture both self and society.”

SJVN, POWERGRID, and Other PSUs Join In  
SJVN Limited celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with excitement at its Corporate Headquarters in Shimla and across its offices and projects. Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), was the chief guest at the Corporate Headquarters session, where he inaugurated and participated in the yoga practice.

POWERGRID's event for International Yoga Day 2025 was led by its CMD, Directors, Executive Directors, and senior officials during an ECM in Lucknow. Employees and their families joined from various establishments across the country.

Coal India Ltd. (CIL) also saw strong participation in Odisha from coal miners and their families. About 700 people, including employees, their families, and school students, practiced yoga at the main event at MCL headquarters in Sambalpur. Shri Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing & Business Development) Coal India Ltd., served as the chief guest, with CMD MCL Shri Uday Anant Kaole presiding over the event. Shri Keshav Rao, Director (HR), and Shri PK Patel, CVO, MCL, were also present.

The BPCL family across the country celebrated wellness together. Employees at refineries, regional offices, plants, and project sites participated in collective yoga sessions, highlighting the importance of physical health and mental balance in everyday life.

MOIL marked International Yoga Day with a special session under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” CMD Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena, along with Director (Finance) Shri Rakesh Tumane and Director (Commercial) Ms. Rashi Singh, led the session, and employees fully embraced the benefits of yoga. 

At the MECL Mahai Project, a yoga session was part of the celebrations for International Yoga Day 2025, with employees and staff participating in guided exercises to promote health and togetherness, continuing a series of yoga events across MECL locations.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) also celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga at Air Force Station New Delhi, focusing on the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” Air Warriors performed yoga asanas together, inspired by the Prime Minister's live address, promoting wellness and reflecting the IAF motto of "People First Mission Always."

These widespread celebrations among India's public sector show the growing recognition of yoga as an effective way to improve physical and mental well-being within the workforce and the broader community.
