In a historic stride for India’s hydropower journey, NHPC Limited has successfully commenced the Wet Commissioning of Unit–I (250 MW) of its flagship 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (HEP). The milestone was achieved on 24th October 2025, with the successful mechanical run of the machine — marking the start of commissioning for the first unit of India’s largest hydro power project.

New Delhi: In a historic stride for India’s hydropower journey, NHPC Limited has successfully commenced the Wet Commissioning of Unit–I (250 MW) of its flagship 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (HEP). The milestone was achieved on 24th October 2025, with the successful mechanical run of the machine — marking the start of commissioning for the first unit of India’s largest hydro power project.

The commencement of Wet Commissioning of Unit–I represents a defining moment for India’s renewable energy landscape. The Subansiri Lower Project, once fully operational, will play a pivotal role in strengthening the nation’s green power capacity and ensuring sustainable energy growth.

Event Graced by NHPC Leadership

The momentous occasion was graced by Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC; Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects); Shri Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical); Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance); Shri Uday Sakharam Nirgudkar, Independent Director; Shri Santosh Kumar, CVO; and Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director & Head of the Project.
Senior officers from NHPC’s Corporate Office and the Project were also present to witness this remarkable achievement.

About Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project

Located on the Subansiri River along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HEP is India’s largest hydroelectric project under construction. Once fully commissioned, it will significantly boost power availability in the northeastern region and contribute to the nation’s sustainable energy goals.
