Dhanbad: Advisor to the Prime Minister, Shri Tarun Kapoor, today visited Belgaria and Karmatand townships in Dhanbad to review rehabilitation and development works being carried out under the Jharia Master Plan (JMP).

The visit focused on safe rehabilitation of families affected by Jharia mine fires, livelihood generation, skill development, education and strengthening of basic amenities.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • At Karmatand, Shri Kapoor inspected the Middle/High School, interacted with students and visited BCCL’s Multi Skill Development Institute (MSDI-IV). Around 800 youth have completed training so far, with over 250 currently undergoing courses in trades such as Beautician, Customer Care Executive and Assistant Fitter.

  • At Belgaria, he interacted with rehabilitated residents, reviewed housing and facilities, and inspected stalls of Self-Help Groups under JharShilp and Project Aarohi.

  • He inaugurated an upgraded Primary School, a Health Sub-Centre and a Model Anganwadi Centre-cum-Pre-Nursery School at Jharia Vihar Colony.

  • Skill Development and Production Centre (being developed jointly by BCCL, JRDA, Jharkhand Government and a private partner) was also reviewed. Textile-related training and production activities are planned to start soon.

High-Level Review Meeting

The visit concluded with a review meeting at the Dhanbad Collectorate. Shri Kapoor directed officials to accelerate rehabilitation, improve education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and basic infrastructure, and ensure better coordination among all agencies.

Senior officials present included Coal India Chairman Shri B. Sairam, BCCL CMD Shri Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Joint Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Alaknanda Dayal, and district administration officers.
