Power Grid Corporation of India Limited Wins Battery Energy Storage Project in Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) to establish a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Andhra Pradesh.

The project, awarded under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model with Viability Gap Funding supported through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), involves the installation of a 150 MW / 300 MWh standalone battery system at the 400/220kV Substation in Kalikiri, Chittoor District. The project is part of a broader initiative to set up 2,000 MWh (1,000 MW x 2 hrs.) cumulative capacity BESS across selected APTRANSCO substations to meet on-demand energy requirements efficiently.

POWERGRID received the Letter of Award (LoA) on December 29, 2025, officially confirming its role in implementing this key renewable energy infrastructure project.

This initiative strengthens POWERGRID’s commitment to supporting India’s energy transition and enhancing grid stability by integrating large-scale battery storage solutions.
