NHPC Limited is India’s largest hydropower company and a key force behind the nation’s clean energy transition. Founded on November 7, 1975, NHPC began as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Private Limited and became a public company in 1986. It was renamed NHPC Limited in 2008, received Miniratna status the same year, got listed on NSE and BSE in 2009, and achieved the prestigious Navratna status in August 2024 — a powerful journey of growth and national trust.

As of September 30, 2025, NHPC holds ₹17,500 crore in authorised capital, ₹10,045.03 crore in paid-up capital, and assets worth ₹93,570.28 crore. The company meets global standards with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications.

 

 

Power at Scale

By October 14, 2025, NHPC’s installed capacity reached 8,332.90 MW, including 7,771.20 MW from hydro, 511.70 MW from solar, and 50 MW from wind. This represents about 15.5% of India’s total hydro capacity, making NHPC a backbone of the country’s energy system.

 

Building Tomorrow

NHPC is developing 15 major projects of 9,704 MW and preparing 10 upcoming projects totalling 7,666 MW, along with 10,830 MW under survey, including international projects in Nepal and advanced pump storage systems.

Driving Green Innovation

Designated as a Renewable Energy Implementing Agency for 26,220 MW, NHPC is also a Battery Energy Storage Implementing Agency for 1,500 MWh. Through NHPC Renewable Energy Limited, the company is advancing green hydrogen pilots in Leh, Kargil and Chamba, reinforcing India’s clean technology leadership.

 

Strong Financials

In FY 2024–25, NHPC generated ₹8,920 crore in power sales and recorded ₹3,084 crore in net profit, showcasing steady performance and financial strength.
