New Delhi, August 13, 2025: On August 12, 2025, Mr. N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical - Operations & Project Planning) of SECL, met with Dr. Rohit Yadav, Chairman of CSPGCL, in Raipur. The two leaders discussed a strategic collaboration for pit-head thermal power plants and coordinated land for long-term synergy between the two companies.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in productive discussions around potential joint ventures, particularly the establishment of pit-head thermal power plants. 

Key matters such as land coordination and SECL’s ongoing coal diversification efforts were also deliberated upon.

From CSPGCL, the Executive Director and other senior officials participated in the discussions. SECL’s delegation comprised General Managers from the departments of New Initiatives, Land Revenue, Electrical & Mechanical, and Forest & Environment.

Chairman Dr. Yadav directed his team to expedite the sharing of identified land data for detailed examination and expressed keen interest in advancing collaborative opportunities. This engagement comes at a time when the Ministry of Coal is actively guiding coal CPSEs towards broader diversification strategies in light of evolving global energy dynamics and growing environmental awareness.

The Ministry is encouraging the development of pit-head thermal power plants, renewable energy assets like solar and wind, coal/lignite gasification facilities, and exploration of critical minerals. 

These efforts aim to ensure sustainable operations and long-term energy security for entities such as Coal India Limited and NLC India Limited, in anticipation of a coal surplus in the future.
