Coal India Limited (CIL), India’s largest coal producer and a Maharatna PSU, has announced the appointment of Shri B. Sairam as its new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD). The appointment has been made by the Ministry of Coal and is effective from 15 December 2025 (Afternoon).
Shri B. Sairam succeeds Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, IAS, who was holding the additional charge of CMD and has ceased to hold the position with effect from the same date.
According to the official disclosure filed with the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, Shri Sairam will hold office from the date of assumption of charge until his superannuation on 31 March 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Prior to this appointment, Shri B. Sairam served as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited. A graduate Mining Engineer from NIT Raipur with an MBA in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business, he brings over three decades of experience in coal mining operations, project planning, logistics, regulatory affairs, and community development.
During his tenure at NCL and earlier roles at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Shri Sairam played a key role in projectisation, First Mile Connectivity initiatives, regulatory clearances, and one of the country’s largest mining rehabilitation and resettlement programmes.
Coal India Limited confirmed that Shri B. Sairam is not related to any other director of the company and is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any SEBI or statutory authority.
