Central and Western Railway intensify drive against counterfeit ticketing-Strict action against Offenders

New Delhi: Central Railway and Western Railway have jointly strengthened enforcement measures to tackle the increasing cases of Fake Ticketing.
This is in view of the increasing number of cases of passengers detected travelling on fake, forged, counterfeit tickets in recent times.
Ticket checking activities will be intensified across the suburban network of Central & Western Railway. Meanwhile, Special Ticket Checking teams will be deployed to check at stations and in trains to detect and curb irregular travel & travelling on counterfeit tickets.
As part of the enhanced checks, passengers are required to carry a valid identity card and produce it to the Ticket Examiner. The identity card must correspond to the details of the season ticket presented.
The Railways are taking a tough stand against individuals involved in generating or using fake tickets. Passengers are strictly warned against adopting any fraudulent means to obtain or produce counterfeit travel tickets.
Offenders will face stringent action under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023 including 318(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(1), 340(2), and 3/5 which deal with cheating & forgery and related offences. Punishments include fines and imprisonment of up to 7 years, or both.
Central and Western Railway appeal to passengers to travel with valid tickets issued by authorised vendors or from railway station booking counters or through ATVM.
