Statutory Inquiry Reveals ‘Error in Train Working’ Behind Gatora–Bilaspur Train Accident

New Delhi: Shri Brijesh Kumar Mishra, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, conducted a statutory inquiry into the tragic collision involving MEMU local train no. 68733 (Gevra Road–Bilaspur) and a goods train on the UP line in the Gatora–Bilaspur section of Bilaspur Division under South East Central Railway on November 04, 2025.

The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of 12 lives, while 19 others sustained injuries, including nine who were grievously hurt.

As per the provisional findings in the preliminary report submitted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the accident occurred due to an “error in train working”. These findings are currently under examination by the Government, and a final conclusion will be drawn after detailed review.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to strengthening operational safety measures across the railway network to prevent such incidents in the future.
