Indian Railways hikes Tatkal Ticket Prices from July 1, mandates Aadhaar for Bookings
Indian Railways will be introducing Aadhaar authentication for booking Tatkal tickets starting from July 1, 2025, onwards.

New Delhi, June 24, 2025: In order to scrutinise the Tatkal Ticketing bookings, the Indian Railways are likely to mull over a Fare hike, starting from July 1, 2025. A marginal increase in passenger train fares is expected to come this year, according to sources. The official sources demonstrate the fare for non-AC Mail/Express trains to be increased by 1 paise per kilometre, and that of AC class fares will witness a rise of 2 paise per KM hike.
Along with this, the Railways will be introducing Aadhaar authentication for booking Tatkal tickets starting from July 1, 2025, onwards.
All Tatkal ticket bookings will now require passengers to authenticate their identity using Aadhaar, and this is objectify to ensure the benefits of the Tatkal scheme to outreach every corner.

According to the official notice from the Ministry of Railways, the Tatkal tickets will only be available for booking through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or app by Aadhaar-authenticated users.
The changes will be implemented from July 15, 2025, and passengers will have to complete an additional step: Aadhaar-based OTP authentication during Tatkal bookings. This is expected to enhance the security and transparency of the reservation system.
Further, the new guidelines will subject restrictions on Tatkal ticket bookings by authorized agents. The agents will now be restricted from booking first-day Tatkal tickets during the initial half-hour reservation window.

The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) along with IRCTC, has been asked by Indian Railways to update their systems and implement these changes to all railway zones to ensure smooth implementation. This action is meant to smooth the Tatkal ticket booking process for passengers and prevent misuse.
