Indian Railways Recruitment 2024-25: 1.2 Lakh Vacancies, 5.08 Lakh Jobs in Last 11 Years

New Delhi, December 3, 2025 – The Ministry of Railways has announced the ongoing recruitment process for 1,20,579 vacancies for the years 2024 and 2025, highlighting that over the past 11 years, Indian Railways has provided 5.08 lakh jobs across various categories.

Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, emphasized that the recruitment process is being conducted in a transparent manner, with no incidents of paper leaks or malpractice.

The first and single-stage Computer Based Tests (CBTs) have been successfully completed for 59,678 posts. Ongoing recruitment includes safety-critical categories such as Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical staff, RPF Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs).

 

Highlights of Recruitment Process:

  • ALP Posts (18,799 vacancies): 1,84,347 candidates appeared across 156 cities in 15 languages.

  • Technician Posts (14,298 vacancies): 2,69,892 candidates in 139 cities.

  • Junior Engineers/DMS/CMA (7,951 vacancies): 11,01,266 candidates across 146 cities.

  • RPF Posts (SI and Constable, 4,660 vacancies): Over 60,000 candidates.

  • Paramedical and Non-Technical Popular Categories: 1,29,899 candidates participated.

Second-stage CBTs for ALP, JE/DMS/CMA, and Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate) have also been completed, along with the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for ALPs.

Additionally, CBTs for Level-1 categories, covering 32,438 vacancies, commenced on November 27, 2025, while the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for 4,208 RPF Constable posts began on November 13, 2025. Panels for over 23,000 candidates have been finalized, primarily in safety-related roles.

Annual Recruitment Calendar:
The Ministry has been publishing an annual calendar since 2024, offering:

  • More opportunities for candidates each year

  • Certainty of exams

  • Faster recruitment, training, and appointments

During 2004-05 to 2013-14, 4.11 lakh jobs were filled, compared to 5.08 lakh jobs during 2014-15 to 2024-25. The annual calendar system ensures consistent recruitment, benefiting aspirants and improving operational efficiency across Indian Railways.

Contractual Engagement:
In urgent operational scenarios, temporary contractual staff may be engaged. However, such engagement does not provide regular employment rights or absorption into Indian Railways.
