Assam: In a significant move to enhance the railway infrastructure, Indian Railways has announced that it has launched a drone-powered cleaning system in Kamakhya Railway Station in Assam. This marks a historic benchmark towards high technology approach and paradigm shift from man-power.

The drone-equipped feature is an innovative technology with high-pressure water jets which cleans train coaches and station areas that are unable to access manually.

Earlier, these cleaning tasks were performed by workers that accounts for a difficulty and risky approach as some spots were unable to reach. This new drone system is made to eliminate and overcome these challenges by using spray waters and disinfectants to target areas like coaches, roofs, elevated surfaces and other areas. This initiative is tackling out with many cleansing manual problems and significantly saving time for other purpose.

This initiative was first introduced in April 2025 and aims to ensure efficiency and hygiene tactics in railway maintenance.

This successful pilot project of Kamakhya Railway station is giant leap towards transformation of railway maintenance and ruling out loopholes that are needed to be corrected. The deployment of automation and cutting-edge technology is a crucial step towards infrastructure and tourism development.
