South Central Railway signs MoU with IIM, Bangalore to study o¬n freight logistics market
New Delhi: In the auspicious occasion of conclave organized on Rail Parcel Logistics on 25th February, 2026 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, the South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a significant milestone by launching a Next-Generation Rail Parcel App: A Digital E-Marketplace for Seamless End-to-End Logistics services which is a first-of-its-kind Parcel Logistics Application on Indian Railways that aims to revolutionize freight logistics services by offering seamless productivity and delivery solutions for the transport of parcels.
The application was inaugurated by General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava who has emphasised its role in reducing the role of long queues and bringing the parcel business into digital era. SCR is the first zone to implement the revolutionary Rail Parcel app. He stated that the Parcel business is as old as the Indian Railways and now is entering a new era of digital transformation.
He stated that the Rail Parcel App brings the parcel office to the pockets of the customers, eliminating the need for filling forms or standing in long queues. In this modern age, parcel booking should be as easy as booking a taxi and the Rail parcel app makes this possible, he said. It offers faster, more reliable parcel movement; increased transparency and enhanced customer convenience, he added.

The occasion has witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore with South Central Railway for undertaking study on Freight Logistics market on SCR.
Under this prestigious partnership, IIM Bangalore, through its Centre of Excellence in Supply Chain Management (SCMC), will spearhead structured demand forecasting, in-depth modal competitiveness analysis, extensive industry consultations, field survey and infrastructure gap assessments.
Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, SCR stated that as part of this initiative, IIMB will prepare a strategic roadmap to unlock freight growth potential and strengthen rail-led logistics. This will contribute meaningfully towards the aspiration of achieving Mission 3000 Million Tonnes of Freight Loading by 2030, he said.
