NHAI Signs MoU with Commercial Vehicle Aggregators to Boost Safety on National Highways

New Delhi, March 10, 2026: In a move to enhance safety, efficiency, and driver engagement on India’s National Highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), through its subsidiary Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading commercial vehicle aggregator platforms. The MoU was signed at the NHAI Headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman, NHAI, and Shri Vishal Chauhan, CMD, IHMCL.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from NHAI, IHMCL, and representatives from five aggregator platforms: WheelsEye Technology India Pvt. Ltd., BlackBuck Ltd., TrucksUp Solutions Pvt. Ltd., TruckSuvidha – Sarvodaya Infotech Pvt. Ltd., and Saffron Navigators Pvt. Ltd.

Leveraging Technology for Safer Highways

Under this collaboration, aggregator platforms will integrate with the ‘Rajmargyatra App’ to provide real-time safety alerts to commercial drivers. Alerts will include information on accident-prone zones, diversions, construction sites, stray animals, and adverse weather conditions. Drivers will also receive updates via in-app notifications, helping improve overall safety on National Highways.

Participative Governance through Driver Engagement

The MoU introduces a driver-led reporting mechanism under the ‘Jan Bhagidari – Driver-Led Reporting’ initiative. Drivers can report geo-tagged highway issues such as potholes, damaged barriers, non-functional streetlights, and faded road markings. These reports will be integrated into the Rajmargyatra ecosystem for centralized and timely resolution.

Emergency Response and Awareness

To strengthen emergency response, aggregator apps will feature a dedicated ‘Call 1033’ button, providing one-click access to the National Highway Helpline. Drivers consenting to share their geo-location will receive faster ambulance dispatch updates and nearest hospital information.

The initiative will also promote responsible driving behavior through awareness videos covering over-speeding, lane discipline, safe stopping practices, and prompt helpline usage. Platforms will track engagement and share periodic participation metrics.

Recognition for Safe Drivers

The ‘Vishisht Saarthi’ program recognizes commercial drivers demonstrating exemplary adherence to highway safety norms. Drivers will receive digital badges and certificates, fostering a culture of safety and accountability among the highway driving community.

Enhanced Transparency and Feedback

Aggregator platforms will enable structured feedback on toll plaza operations including wait times, lane efficiency, pricing, and amenities. Additionally, drivers can report FASTag-related issues such as incorrect toll deductions or delayed transaction postings, which will be escalated for coordinated resolution with relevant stakeholders.

A Step Towards Smart Highways

This MoU marks a significant step towards digitally empowered highways where commercial vehicle drivers actively contribute to safety, governance, and service improvement. By integrating technology, real-time monitoring, and participative engagement, NHAI aims to create safer, more efficient, and user-friendly highways for India’s growing fleet of commercial vehicles.
