Telangana Highway Expansion: 5,000+ km Developed, NH-167 & PMGSY Roads Transform Connectivity

Telangana: Over the past decade, Telangana has witnessed an unprecedented surge in road infrastructure, transforming connectivity across the state. Since 2014, more than 5,000 km of National Highways have been developed, significantly improving travel efficiency and boosting economic activity.

The state government, in coordination with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has approved the development of 1,719 km of National Highways worth over ₹38,000 crore under the Bharatmala Project. These strategic investments aim to enhance trade corridors, reduce travel time, and strengthen Telangana’s position as a logistics hub in South India.

Key Highway Projects:

One of the flagship projects includes the Gudeballur - Mahabubnagar NH-167, which has been expanded to 4 lanes at a total cost of over ₹3,175 crore. This highway serves as a critical link connecting major commercial and industrial zones, supporting smoother freight and passenger movement.

Rural Road Development:

Telangana has also focused on inclusive development through rural road expansion. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), more than 12,000 km of rural roads have been constructed, improving connectivity in remote areas, facilitating access to markets, healthcare, and education, and boosting local livelihoods.
