NLCIL OBSERVES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2017
Neyveli: NLCIL observed the World Environment Day 2017, with the theme “Connecting People to Nature” at Yegneswaran Auditorium of Learning & Development Centre,Neyveli , on 05.06.2017. Dr C. Kaliaperumal, Director, Ministry of Environment, Forest& Climate Change, Chennai Region were the Chief Guest.
A pledge in line with the theme was administered to everyone in the programme to protect the natural resources, environment and biodiversity of our home planet and to spend time with nature as it is a great stress reliever.
Dr.S.K Acharya,CMD,NLCIL readout the English version of the pledge, Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance) read out the Hindi version of the pledge, Shri P.Selva Kumar, Director (P&P) read out in the Tamil version.
Dr. S.K Acharya, CMD, NLCIL in his key note address stressed that Development and Conservation should go hand in hand to maintain ecological balance. He said, planned, effective and efficient usage of natural resources for industrial and domestic purposes can reduce wastage. Every industry need to adopt sustainable development policy and it should ensure usage of natural resources legitimately and strive hard to recreate natural resources equally or more than that.
Protecting our mother earth from all sorts of effluences must be everyone’s aim and we have to manage earth’s resources wisely and encourage recycling, to minimize adverse effects of mineral extraction and renewable resources and to develop renewable substitutes.
He informed that, NLCIL always strive hard to carry out more environment friendly mining and power generation. Dr. Kaliaperumal, in his address, emphasised on why people need to connect to the nature. He appreciated NLCIL management for the effective initiatives taken to increase water table in peripheral villages by desilting ponds. Functional Directors of NLCIL Shri Rakesh Kumar, Shri Subir Das, Shri V. Thangapandian, Shri P.Selvakumar and Shri R.Vikraman graced the occasion and extended their felicitations.
To mark this occasion, the Chief guest and Directors distributed prizes and free tree saplings to winners of the various competitions organized by Corporate Environment Cell on the occasion of World Environment Day 2017. Also CMD and Directors appreciated and recognized the members of newly inaugurated “Nurture nature for Future –Eco Club”,Neyveli with certificates and tree saplings.
In the morning, Mass Tree Plantations were organized at Villudianapattu Temple, Mines, Thermal Units and Administrative offices of NLCIL wherein thousands of saplings were planted by senior officials, employees and representatives of Trade Unions & Associations
