MECON Limited Celebrated the World Environment Day
Ranchi: MECON Limited is a premier organization under Ministry of Steel, Government of India, celebrated the “World Environment Day” on 5th June 2017 at MECON Township, Ranchi, with the objective to create awareness among the people regarding importance of the nature, healthy and green environment in the human lives, climate change, Air & Water pollution, healthy human life and approaches to solve the environmental issues by implementing positive Environmental actions to make our World more sustainable. MECON is committed towards the objectives of increasing green cover, energy efficiency, sustainable development, through his activities and services.
World Environment Day is the biggest event for positive Environmental action and is celebrated on 4th and 5th June, 2017 by all MECONIANs and has taken initiatives to spread awareness by organizing and celebrating on 4th June, 2017 and 5th June,2017 by undertaking various activities like Painting and Slogan writing competition on the theme of “World Environment Day - 2017” under different age group categories. The event started with plantation of some auspicious plants in the township.
The Resolution of this year’s World Environment Day is conservation of wildlife, water harvesting, energy efficiency and more sustainable approach toward green environment. As part of people awareness campaign, MECON organized various competitions and events for all age groups of people and the winners of the competitions were given prizes on this occasion.
Presiding over the function, Shri Atul Bhatt, CMD MECON, Shri PK Sarangi, Director (Technical), MECON, Smt. Indu Agarwal, Principle Director of Commercial Audit, Supria Jaiswal, CVO MECON. Shri CD Goswami,GM, Shri TP Chopra, GM, Ms. Nupur Bhatt & Ms..Shailaja Sarangi planted the saplings and reiterated the need for sustainable measures in day to day life. Other Green Initiatives undertaken by MECON earlier for sustainability and energy efficient environment are conservation of energy in Office premises by changing to high efficient AC system and by LED Lighting of office premises, several afforestation programmes in residential colony, replacement of Street Lights with LED Lights in MECON Colony, Organic Waste Converter Station in MECON Colony for municipal Solid Waste processing, rain water
harvesting system, Solar water heating system at ISPAT Hospital and training of employees on Sustainable Development. MECON has set an example by harnessing renewable energy and energy optimization for the betterment of society and mankind.
