New Delhi, January 29, 2026 – Millions of Indians search online every day for how to apply for a new Aadhaar card or update their existing Aadhaar details. The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has made it simple and convenient to complete most updates online from home.
Free Aadhaar Updates Until 14 June 2026
UIDAI has extended the free online update deadline to 14 June 2026. You can update details like name, address, date of birth, gender, and mobile number online for free. After this date, most updates may require visiting an Aadhaar centre with nominal charges.
How to Apply for a New Aadhaar Card

Book an Appointment Online:
Visit the UIDAI portal and choose Aadhaar Enrollment. Select your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and schedule a date and time. -
Visit the Centre with Documents:
Carry valid documents for Proof of Identity (POI), Proof of Address (POA), and Proof of Date of Birth (DOB). Examples: Passport, PAN card, voter ID, driving license, utility bills, or birth certificate. -
Biometric Capture:
The centre will record your photo, fingerprints, and iris scan. These biometrics make your Aadhaar unique. -
Acknowledgement Slip & URN:
You will get a slip with URN (Update Request Number) to track your Aadhaar status online. -
Digital Aadhaar & Delivery:
Once processed, you can download e-Aadhaar immediately or receive the physical card at your address.
How to Update Aadhaar Details Online
You can update most details from home using the myAadhaar portal:

Go to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

Enter your Aadhaar number and receive OTP on your registered mobile.

Select Update Aadhaar Details and choose the field(s) you want to change.

Upload scanned supporting documents.

Submit and note your Service Request Number (SRN) to track updates.
Note: Biometric updates (photo, fingerprints, iris) still require a visit to an Aadhaar centre.
