Ashok Chandra and Binod Kumar appointed as MD and CEO of PNB, Indian Bank

The government said in two separate orders that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved leadership changes at two major public sector banks, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Indian Bank.

Shri Ashok Chandra assumed charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Punjab National Bank on 16 January 2025. He has over 33 years of extensive and varied banking industry experience.

The government said in two separate orders that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved leadership changes at two major public sector banks, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Indian Bank. Ashok Chandra, currently Executive Director of Canara Bank, has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of PNB for three years.

As executive Director of Canara Bank, he has overseen various Verticals, including Digital Banking and Information Technology, Strategy and Planning, Marketing and Public Relations, Financial Inclusion, MSME, Retail Assets, Agriculture and Priority Sector, Gold Loans, Liability Management, and General Administration.

Additionally, Binod Kumar, Executive Director of PNB, has been named the new MD & CEO of Indian Bank. Kumar, appointed for a three-year term, will be eligible for a two-year extension based on a performance review.

"Appointment of Shri Binod Kumar, Executive Director, Punjab National Bank as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Indian Bank for three years w.e.f. the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the order stated.
