New Delhi: The festive spirit is set to impact banking operations across India, with a series of scheduled and regional holidays leading to multi-day closures in the week of October 20-25, 2025, primarily due to the celebrations of Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj. Customers are strongly advised to complete any branch-dependent transactions in advance, although digital banking services will remain unaffected.

The Festival of Lights, Diwali (Deepavali), is the anchor for a sequence of bank holidays, varying in applicability from state to state. While a few states have bank holidays starting as early as October 20 (Monday), the closures will extend well into the week for many regions:

The holiday impact began even earlier, with banks across India also observing closures on:
October 19 (Sunday): Regular weekly off.
October 18 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday off. Banks in Guwahati, however, observed a regional holiday for Kati Bihu.
The good news for customers is that the core of the nation's financial machinery will continue to function. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations ensure that essential services will be available throughout the holiday period:
ATMs will remain operational for cash withdrawals.
Online and mobile banking services will function normally.
Digital payment systems such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS will be available 24x7.
