RBI Assigns Bank of Baroda as Lead Bank for New Vav-Tharad District in Gujarat
New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has assigned Lead Bank responsibility for the newly created Vav-Tharad district in the State of Gujarat, following its official notification by the state government.
The Government of Gujarat, through a gazette notification dated September 24, 2025, announced the formation of Vav-Tharad as a new district. Based on this development, the RBI has designated Bank of Baroda as the Lead Bank for the district under the Lead Bank Scheme.

The RBI clarified that this assignment is made to ensure effective coordination of banking and financial inclusion initiatives in the newly formed district.
No Change for Other Districts
The central bank also stated that there is no change in Lead Bank assignments for any other districts in the State of Gujarat. Existing arrangements for other districts will continue as before.
The Lead Bank Scheme plays a key role in promoting credit flow, financial inclusion, and implementation of government-sponsored schemes at the district level.
