Canara Bank Discloses ₹50,423 Crore Bond Portfolio in Q3 Filing

Mumbai:  Following its quarterly results, Canara Bank has made a significant regulatory disclosure, revealing its massive portfolio of listed debt securities. The bank has filed a 'Security Cover Certificate' with stock exchanges, detailing 18 series of bonds with a total outstanding value of ₹50,423 crore.

Key Points:

  • Total Debt Exposure: The certificate confirms Canara Bank has ₹50,423 crore worth of listed, unsecured, non-convertible bonds.

  • Basel-III Compliant: All listed securities are Basel-III compliant, including Tier I, Tier II, and Long-Term Bonds (LTBs).

  • No Asset Backing Required: Auditors certified that as these are unsecured bonds, no specific physical assets are pledged as collateral. They are backed by the bank's overall credit strength.

  • Full Compliance: The bank's statutory auditor confirmed all bond covenants and terms have been complied with as of December 31, 2025.

Investor Context:
This disclosure is a standard quarterly requirement (SEBI Regulation 54) for transparency, not an indicator of stress. It comes on the same day the bank reported a strong Q3 FY26 standalone net profit of ₹5,155 crore, showcasing its ability to manage its large debt obligations.

The filing lists bonds issued over several years, with the largest single series being a 'CB LTB 2034' bond worth ₹10,000 crore.
