International Tom Joseph flags off the Swachhata Cycle Rally from SH College
Ernakulam: Arjuna Awardee Tom Joseph flagged off the Swachhata Cycle rally at Sacred Heart College Thevara, Ernakulam on 3rd September 2019. Popular Cine Star Balu was also a star attraction of the cycle rally organised by SH College as part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebration in association with BPCL-Kochi Refinery. College Principal Rev. Dr. Prasant Palakkappillil CMI, and Arjuna Awardee George Thomas, General Manager (PR and Admin), BPCL Kochi Refinery spoke on the occasion.
With placards reading, GO GREEN, BREATHE CLEAN and SAY NO TO DRUGS, a team of 75 students and teachers covered districts of Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki in 3 days, spreading the message to 20 Schools and Colleges in addition to other organisations like LIC (Kottayam) and Deepika (Malayalam News Daily).
In addition to presenting street plays and Swachhata awareness talks at each institution, the campaigners also distributed Cloth Bags with the message SAY NO TO PLASTIC and a sapling of a jack fruit tree as a token of the green campaign.
Setting out from SH College, the cyclists were warmly received at Naipunya College, St. Michael’s College, SN College, St. Joseph’s College and Leo XIII Higher Secondary School Alappuzha on 3rd September.
They moved on to S. D. College, S. B. College, Assumption College, Nattakam Govt. College, Baselius College, BCM College, LIC office, CMS College, Deepika and Malayala Manorama dailies at Mannanam, Kottayam from where they covered Ettumanoor, Pala, Thodupuzha, Vazhakkulam on 5 September 2019 and further at K. E. College, St. Thomas College, Alphonsa College, Newman College and Carmel School Vazhakulam.
On the last leg of the journey, Vazhakkulam to Kolencherry, Thripunithura, on 6th September 2019 they covered Carmel School, Nirmala College, CMI Carmel Provincial House, St. Peter's College, Muthoot Engineering College, RLV College and finally returned to their base Sacred Heart College, Ernakulam.
