April 08, 2026 | Delhi : Reinforcing India’s growing capabilities in integrated urban mobility solutions, BEML Limited, a PSU company under the Ministry of Defence, GoI, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) to collaborate on metro rail projects in India and expand their footprint in global markets, followed by opportunities within India.
The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two organizations, focusing on jointly identifying, pursuing, and executing metro rail projects. As part of this partnership, BEML and DMRC will collaborate in domestic and global markets, leveraging their respective strengths.
This development comes at a time when BEML is steadily expanding its presence in the global market. The company recently secured its first overseas order for metro rolling stock, valued at around USD 60 million, for a project in the African region. Building upon this order for the supply of metro coaches, the MoU is envisaged as an export-oriented partnership, marking a strategic transition from a supply-driven model to a comprehensive EPC-based approach under a single umbrella. The collaboration with DMRC aims to deliver end-to-end metro solutions.
The MoU was signed at the DMRC office in New Delhi by Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Director (Rail & Metro), BEML Limited, and Shri P.K. Garg, Director (Business Development), DMRC, in the presence of Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML Limited, and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC. Shri Anil Jerath, Director (Finance), BEML, functional directors of DMRC, and other senior officials from both organisations were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shantanu Roy stated that the association with DMRC would further strengthen BEML’s presence in the rail and metro sector. He noted that BEML’s capabilities in manufacturing rolling stock, combined with DMRC’s expertise in the execution and operation of metro systems, would enable the two organisations to offer comprehensive, competitive, and globally benchmarked solutions. The understanding between the two organisations is aimed at exploring areas of mutual interest and fostering collaboration in the field of metro rail systems.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD of DMRC, termed the MoU as a “historic collaboration between two Indian giants”, emphasizing that this partnership would significantly enhance mobility in urban transport systems, particularly metro networks, both in India and globally. He highlighted the urgent need for the development of indigenous propulsion systems for rolling stock through innovation, and stressed the importance of indigenously designed and manufactured Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for upcoming infrastructure projects such as high-speed rail, metro systems, and Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS). He further expressed that under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, both organisations should work jointly towards developing indigenous TBMs by combining DMRC’s technical expertise and vast execution experience with BEML’s world-class design and manufacturing capabilities to excel, under the priority of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.
BEML is engaged in the manufacture of a wide range of products for railways and metro systems, including metro coaches, electrical multiple units, and track maintenance equipment. The company is also active in the construction, mining, defence, and aerospace sectors. DMRC, which has played a pioneering role in the development of metro rail systems in India, brings with it extensive experience in project implementation and operation
