Government Marketplace (GeM) signed an MoU with UN WOMEN, a UN Entity, on 20th November 2025 in New Delhi, to further strengthen the empowerment and integration of women entrepreneurs from the informal sector in India's public procurement ecosystem.

New Delhi: Government Marketplace (GeM) signed an MoU with UN WOMEN, a UN Entity, on 20th November 2025 in New Delhi, to further strengthen the empowerment and integration of women entrepreneurs from the informal sector in India's public procurement ecosystem.

This collaboration seeks to promote gender-responsive procurement with a special focus on sourcing from women-led businesses, thereby deepening market access for women under GeM's #Womaniya initiative.
 

The MoU was signed by Shri Ajit B. Chavan, Additional CEO, GeM and Smt. Kanta Singh, Country Representative, UN India, in the august presence of Sri Mihir Kumar, CEO, GeM, Ms. Radhika Kaul Batra, Chief of Staff, United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN India), senior officers from both organisations and prominent trade associations like Laghu Udyog Bharati, PHDCCI, SEWA Bharat, etc.

Through this MoU, GeM and UN WOMEN seek to, inter-alia, promote advocacy, outreach, awareness, mobilisation and capacity building of women entrepreneurs; examine, adopt and implement best practices in public procurement and work towards achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 - “To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.
