Cabinet Sanctions Rs 2000 Crore Grant to NCDC to Strengthen Cooperative Sector

New Delhi. The Union Cabinet has approved a financial grant of Rs 2000 crore to the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). This decision shows the government's commitment to strengthening the cooperative sector. The grant will be distributed in equal installments of Rs 500 crore per year over the next four years. The focus is on improving rural economic development.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision. He called it a significant step toward achieving the vision of Sahkar Se Samriddhi, which means prosperity through cooperation.
Shah mentioned that the NCDC will use the funding to support new cooperative projects, expand existing infrastructure, and increase loan offerings, especially in rural India. He added that this initiative will empower women, create self-employment opportunities, and support millions of cooperative members across the country.
In a related development, the Cabinet also approved an expenditure of Rs 6520 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). This includes an additional allocation of Rs 1920 crore, which will help set up 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing laboratories nationwide. These facilities aim to ensure food safety, improve product shelf life, and help farmers receive better market prices.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved four railway multi-tracking projects across 13 districts in six states, with a total investment of Rs 11169 crore. The projects will add 574 kilometers to India’s railway infrastructure, improving connectivity, boosting trade, and generating employment.
