Centre Reviews SCCL Performance, Calls for Focus on Coal Quality and Sustainability
A high-level meeting reviewed Singareni Collieries’ performance, with emphasis on coal quality, cost reduction, employee welfare and acquisition of new coal blocks.
Hyderabad: A high-level review meeting was chaired at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, with senior officials of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to assess the company’s operational performance and future roadmap.
During the meeting, SCCL was called upon to improve coal quality, reduce operational expenditure, and prioritise employee welfare while proactively working towards the acquisition of new coal blocks to ensure long-term sustainability.

Coal sector reforms are underway, and government-owned enterprises must operate with efficiency, accountability and commitment to remain competitive

Optimal utilisation of human resources, adoption of modern technologies, and systematic planning are critical for securing new coal blocks

Focus on Washeries
To improve quality standards, SCCL was advised to accelerate the establishment of coal washeries, including newly introduced dry washeries, in line with modern and environmentally sustainable practices.
Way Forward
Officials were directed to prepare comprehensive action plans and ensure time-bound implementation of ongoing and proposed projects, aligning with the Government’s vision of a resilient, sustainable and self-reliant coal sector.
The review underlined the importance of strategic planning and execution to strengthen SCCL’s role in meeting India’s energy security needs.
