New Delhi, 16 Dec 2025: The Government of India has set a target to expand the network of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 25,000 outlets by March 2027, aimed at strengthening access to affordable generic medicines across the country.

As per official data, 17,610 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened nationwide as of November 30, 2025, a sharp rise from just 80 outlets in 2014. The steady expansion reflects growing public awareness and trust in the quality and affordability of medicines available under the scheme.

The increasing acceptance of Janaushadhi products is evident from a 37% growth in the number of Kendras and a 38% increase in sales value during the last financial year. The expanding product basket and higher sales volumes have also improved the commercial viability of the Kendras, making the scheme more attractive to entrepreneurs.

Jan Aushadhi Kendras are opened by inviting online applications from individual entrepreneurs, NGOs, societies, trusts, firms, and private companies across the country through the scheme’s official portal. The initiative continues to play a key role in reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for citizens.

The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
