New Delhi, 20 August 2025: According to the information shared by Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the project of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) is steadily making progress with major civil works, station foundations, river bridges, and tunnelling activities underway.
The project, which is 508 km, is being implemented with technical and financial assistance from Japan and spans throughout the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Other major interventions, like land acquisitions of 1,389.5 hectares and all statutory clearances, have been completed, and 24 of the 28 tender packages have been awarded.

The civil-related works are expanding rapidly as per official data, and foundation work has been completed already for 406 km, piers for 395 km, and girder launching for 312 km. While track laying has begun on 127 km of viaducts, with overhead equipment mast erection in progress.
Foundation works for eight stations have been finished out of the 12 planned stations in Gujarat, and work progress at three stations in Maharashtra and the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is ongoing. Meanwhile, 16 river bridges have been completed, and work is progressively advancing on nine others.
The Gujarat tunnel is complete, and work on the 21 km undersea tunnel has begun, with 4 km of tunneling already completed in Maharashtra. The cumulative financial expenditure on the project has reached Rs 78,839 crore till June 30, 2025. The minister said the project has generated direct and indirect employment through construction, supply chains, and allied services.
