Good news for Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries: LPG subsidy increased to Rs 300 per cylinder
The announcement was made by Union Minister Anurag Thakur on October 4, 2023, after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the decision.

The Indian government has hiked the LPG subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries to Rs 300 per cylinder from the current Rs 200. This move will benefit over 9.6 crore households across the country.
The announcement was made by Union Minister Anurag Thakur on October 4, 2023, after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the decision.
The PMUY scheme was launched in 2016 to provide free LPG connections to poor households, especially those living in rural areas. The scheme has been a success, with over 9 crore connections being provided so far.

However, the rising prices of LPG cylinders have made it difficult for many Ujjwala beneficiaries to afford cooking gas. The government's decision to hike the subsidy will help to reduce the burden on these households.
With the increased subsidy, a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 603 for Ujjwala beneficiaries, while for other domestic consumers, it will continue to be priced at Rs 903.
The government's decision to hike the LPG subsidy for Ujjwala beneficiaries is a welcome move. It will help to make cooking gas more affordable for poor households and encourage them to switch to LPG from traditional cooking fuels such as firewood and dung cakes. This will have a positive impact on the health and well-being of these households, as well as the environment.

For example, it has launched a scheme to provide two free refills per year to Ujjwala beneficiaries.
The government's efforts to make LPG more affordable for Ujjwala beneficiaries are commendable. These efforts will help to improve the lives of millions of poor households across the country.
