NDA vs INDIA bloc: Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan (CP Radhakrishnan) and former Supreme Court Judge, B Sudershan Reddy, are in the race of Next Vice President of India.

New Delhi, August 22, 2025: After a month of Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation from the post of Vice President of India, the Election Commission has started the process to elect the new Vice President of India 2025. On the one side of the wall, there is NDA, which picked Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan (CP Radhakrishnan) as its VP candidate and on the other side INDIA bloc names former Supreme Court Judge, B Sudershan Reddy.
Both candidates have significant experience from their respective fields-politics and judiciary, setting the stage for a compelling electoral battle that will test the strategic prowess of both alliances.

Majority leads to NDA beacuse it has 293 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 129 in the Rajya Sabha, total stands 422 votes, and one candidate needs 394 votes. According to the rule, the Vice President has been elected by the votes of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member. The total count of two houses stands 786.

Who is C.P. Radharishnan? NDA Candidate for VP of India 2025
Shri. Chandrapuram Ponnusami Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra on 31st July 2024. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand for nearly one and a half years. As the Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed by the President of India to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana and as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry.
With more than four decades experience, Shri Radhakrishnan is a respected name in the polity and public life of Tamil Nadu.
Born on May 4, 1957, in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Shri Radhakrishnan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Starting as an RSS Swayamsevak, he became a State Executive Committee Member of the Bharatiya Janasangh in 1974.
In 1996, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed the Secretary of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Coimbatore in 1998. He was re-elected to Lok Sabha in 1999.
During his tenure as an MP, he served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Textiles. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and the Consultative Committee for Finance. He was a member of the Parliamentary Special Committee investigating the Stock Exchange Scam.
In 2004, Shri Radhakrishnan addressed the UN General Assembly as part of the Parliamentary Delegation. He was also a member of the first Parliamentary delegation to Taiwan.
Between 2004 and 2007, Shri Radhakrishnan served as the State President of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. In this role, he undertook a 19,000 km ‘Ratha Yatra’ that lasted for 93 days. The Yatra was organised to highlight his demands for the linking of all Indian rivers, eradicating terrorism, implementing a uniform civil code, removing untouchability and combating the menace of narcotic drugs. He also led two more Padayatras for different causes.
In 2016, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Chairman of the Coir Board, Kochi, a position he held for four years. Under his leadership, coir exports from India reached an all-time high of Rs. 2532 crores. From 2020 to 2022, he was the All India in Charge of BJP for Kerala.
On February 18, 2023, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. Within his first four months, he travelled to all the 24 districts of Jharkhand, interacting with citizens and district officials.
Who is B. Sudershan Reddy? INDIA bloc Candidate for VP of India 2025
B. Sudershan Reddy, B.A., LL.B., was born on July 8, 1946. He was enrolled as Advocate at Hyderabad with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on December 27, 1971. He has practiced in Writ and Civil matters in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. He worked as Government Pleader in the High Court during 1988-90. He also worked as Additional Standing Counsel for Central Government for a period of 6 months during 1990.
He worked as Legal Adviser and Standing Counsel for Osmania University. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995. He was appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 05.12.2005. Appointed as a Judge of Supreme Court of India on 12.01.2007. Retired on 8.7.2011 (F.N.)

The former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar resigned on July 21, 2025 by formally giving his resignation letter to President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The reason has been stated the medical issues. This statement came hours after the first day of Monsson Session of Parliament. In his letter he stated, to prioritise the heath care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately.
Right after the resgination of Dhakar many questions arrives and leaders were in shock and states that this is the first time in history where the Vice Presiden of India has resigned, and the resignation was accepted.
