NEW DELHI- Shri. Anurag Thakur, Hon'ble Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India,  felicitated Arjuna Awardee and veteran badminton icon Shri George Thomas amongst select sports luminaries at a ceremony in Kochi on 18 March 2023.

Shri George Thomas, an iconic player from Kerala was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian Badminton.  

He was the winner of the French Toulouse open and captain of the Indian team in the Thomas Cup and World Championships and was on the Indian team that won the Silver Medal in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. 

Playing from a very young age, he has won many national and international titles in singles and doubles and has trained and played with some of the greatest legends of the game. He has been supporting the growth of sports in Kerala over several years. His sons Arun and Kiran are also well ranked badminton players in the national and international circuits. Shri George Thomas continues his spirited performance in the game with the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.

Shri George Thomas, General Manager (PR & Admn), BPCL Kochi Refinery, is also recipient of the "Most Effective Public Relations Manager" from the Chief Minister of Kerala, an award under the aegis of the Press Club and Public Relations Council of India (Kerala Chapter).
