Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary retires as CMD of NHPC Ltd after a distinguished 35-year career in the power sector
Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary has retired as the Chairman and Managing Director of the NHPC Ltd upon attaining the age of superannuation with effect from 30.06.2025 (EOD). He has assumed the position in August 2024 and PESB has recommended Bhupendra Gupta as next Chairman and Managing Director of the Hydropower PSU.

He has been entrusted with the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN Limited in November 2024.
A seasoned professional, Shri Chaudhary has over 35 years of rich and vast experience in the power sector and hydropower development. He possesses expertise and deep knowledge in all aspects of development of a hydro-project from concept to commissioning and has contributed in development of hydropower in India and Bhutan. Shri Chaudhary is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT Sindri and has also done Advance Diploma in Management.
He joined NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at Koel Karo HE Project, Jharkhand. In an outstanding career, Shri Chaudhary steadily rose to various positions in NHPC including the post of Director (Technical), NHPC, before being finally taking over as Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC on 7th August 2024.

Shri Chaudhary has also served as Director (Technical) in Mangdechhu & Punatsangchhu-II HE Projects in Bhutan.
The Competent Authority has entrusted the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC Limited to Shri Rajendra Prasad Goyal, Director (Finance), NHPC Limited for a period of two months w.e.f. 01.07.2025 or till a a full-time incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
