The Bengaluru International Airport Limited is preparing to build an Eastern connectivity tunnel to connect the eastern area of the airport. The project is planned to enhance the accessibility for passengers. It will make travel easier for commuters traveling from Mahadevapura, Sarjapur Whitefield, and other regions of east Bengaluru.

The tunnel will be directly connecting the eastern part of Bengaluru to the airport. The project is planned to reduce the traffic. It will reduce traffic congestion and cut the travel time by about 30 minutes.

The tunnel is part of BIAL’s Rs 16,500 crore expansion plan to boost and help the aviation sector. As per the airport authorities, the proposal for the four-lane 2.5-km long tunnel has already been submitted to the Karnataka government.

Apart from this, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) is working on two new metro stations and making Terminal 3 to deal with the passenger traffic. BIAL is working on the development of Terminal 3 to deal with the growing passenger traffic. Currently, the Kempe Gowda international airport has two terminals and operates in two runways.

The airport will reach an operational capacity of 85 million passengers by 2030-32. A build-up of Terminal 3 will have 25-30 million passengers on an annual basis to the airport. According to the CEO of BIAL, Hari Marar, the tunnel will help to deal with the traffic flow. The tunnel will become a reliable route for the airport.
