This corridor has been expanded from Phoolbagan to Sealdah 2.33 km long stretch constructed at a cost of Rs 1,250 crore.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Monday, July 11, inaugurated the Sealdah Metro Station & commenced East-West Metro Service from Phoolbagan to Sealdah developed by the Indian Railway as a part of the Government of India East-West Metro Corridor of Kolkata.
Both these facilities will benefit 35000 daily commuters & ease traffic congestion at Sealdah railway station.
On February 14, 2020, Metro was operated for the first time on this corridor. It was extended up to Phoolbagan Station on October 04, 2020. The two busiest Railway Stations in Asia, Howrah, and Sealdah will be connected by Metro.
This corridor has been expanded from Phoolbagan to Sealdah 2.33 km long stretch constructed at a cost of Rs 1,250 crore.
The East-West Metro Corridor Project is to be completed by 2023. This Metro service will pass under the Hooghly river, making it the first Metro in the country to pass 33 m below the river bed.
It is expected that more than 9 lakh passengers will use this Metro service every day. By 2025 around 1.83 lakh commuters are expected to use Sealdah Metro station daily
World-class passenger amenities like Lifts, Escalators, Drinking Water facilities, Modern Toilets, Platform Screen Doors, and Double Discharge Platforms are provided at Sealdah Metro Station.
