GRID-INDIA hosted GO15 Governing Board and Steering Board Meeting

New Delhi (23.02.2024): GO15 is the association of the Very Large Power Grid Operators, which serves more than half of the world’s electricity demand. The association was created in 2004 with a view that a transmission grid and a resilient power system are key to energy transition. GO15 is dedicated to high level exchanges among industry leaders and offers opportunity to
address major strategic and technical issues affecting the safety, reliability and the sustainability of power systems. GO15 endeavours to promote bilateral and multilateral international collaboration to prepare a sustainable future.

GO15 Governing Board and Steering Board meetings were hosted by Grid Controller of India Limited, at New Delhi on February 22nd and 23rdTwenty-six industry leaders from ten global organisations gathered for the meetings.

The meetings were attended, among others,  by Mr S.R. Narasimhan, Chairman and Managing Director, Grid-India and GO15 president, Dr. Bruno Meyer, Secretary general, GO15, Mr. Fedor Opadchiy, Chairman, SO-UPS, Russia, Mr. Elliot Mainzer, CEO California ISO, USA, Mr. John Bear, CEO MISO, USA, Mr. Kazuhiko Shiba, Board Member & Managing Executive Officer, TEPCO Power Grid, Japan, Mr. Dong Hee Jung, CEO KPX, South Korea and Mr. Segomoco Scheppers, Managing Director Eskom, South Africa.

2024 also marks the momentous occasion of GO15’s 20th Year Anniversary and special celebrations were organised to mark this event. The celebration gave an opportunity to take a nostalgic view back on the journey that GO15 and its members have undertaken to build this global collaboration. Mr. S.R. Narasimhan, CMD Grid-India and GO15 President remarked that “Grid-India’s association with GO15 has been since its very inception, it has been a valuable partnership that has helped in creating global knowledge pool, sharing expertise and building strong partnerships“.

Dr. Bruno Meyer, Secretary General added “Thank you to Grid-India for hosting this special event and congratulations to all members who have built this amazing power grids network to help navigate the uncertainties of power management across the globe.”

A panel discussion on the topic “The Triple Bottom Line for Sustainable Grids: Adequacy, Reliability & Affordability” was also organized, Sh. Arun Goyal, Member, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, India, Sh. Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority, India, Mr. Elliot Mainzer, CEO California ISO, Mr. Segomoco Scheppers, CEO Eskom Grid, Mr. John Bear, CEO, MISO, Ms. Claire Lajoie-Mazenc, Scientific Advisor, RTE, France were part of the panel.

The two days’ discussions covered important topics of global implications on Resource Adequacy- risk & reliability in Power Systems, new technologies impacting the end consumers, how to build synergies and create a shared roadmap towards a brighter, cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
