Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and Secretary MoPNG Shri Pankaj Jain would be visiting ONGC’s iconic offshore jack-up drilling rig Sagar Samrat to formally rededicate it as a transformed Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU).

NEW DELHI- Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and Secretary MoPNG Shri Pankaj Jain would be visiting ONGC’s iconic offshore jack-up drilling rig Sagar Samrat to formally rededicate it as a transformed Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU).
Discovering India’s most prolific oilfield Bombay High in 1974, Sagar Samrat put India on the global oil map. Having drilled 125 wells, the vessel made 14 key offshore oil and gas discoveries for India.
Designed to handle 20,000 crude oil barrels each day, now the MOPU has a maximum export gas capacity of 2.36 million cubic meters per day. Sagar Samrat commenced production on 23 December 2022.
The Minister will then meet ONGC employees and their family members to motivate them to continue their nation-building efforts.
