Union Power and NRE Minister leads India's efforts to produce Green Hydrogen with pilot projects
Currently there is a very limited production of Green Hydrogen in the country. Under Research and Development projects supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, a 5 Nm3/h (normal cubic meter per hour) Green Hydrogen production plant based on solar energy and electrolysis has been established at Gurugram.

NEW DELHI- Currently there is a very limited production of Green Hydrogen in the country. Under Research and Development projects supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, a 5 Nm3/h (normal cubic meter per hour) Green Hydrogen production plant based on solar energy and electrolysis has been established at Gurugram, Haryana and a 6 kg per hour Green Hydrogen production plant based on biomass gasification has been established at IISc Bangalore, Karnataka.
Further, some pilot projects have been set up in the country for the production of Green Hydrogen, as follows:
- A Green Hydrogen manufacturing pilot plant of capacity 10 kg per day at Jorhat, Assam by Oil India Limited.
- A Green Hydrogen production plant of capacity 2 kg per day at Kawas, Gujarat by NTPC Limited.
- A Green Ammonia plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan which produces Green Hydrogen at a rate of 500 Nm3 / hr - about 175 tonnes per annum by M/s ACME.
The government of India has not provided any subsidy for these pilot projects.
Recently, one company has set up a manufacturing facility for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane electrolyzers in Bengaluru.
This information was given by the Union Minister of Renewable Energy & Power Sh. R.K. Singh in the Rajya Sabha.
