Mumbai: Marching towards establishing industry 4.0 standards, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited kicks off implementation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, first time in the history of shipbuilding in the country. MDL, along with the many firsts being introduced in Project 17A, has added another new feature in the project by adopting the PLM solutions from Siemens. Rear Admiral AK Saxena, NM, (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding), MDL along with MDL and Siemens teams were present during the inauguration of the PLM induction at MDL.
The construction of P17A frigates is being spearheaded by MDL who is also providing lead yard services to GRSE, Kolkata. An exclusive data centre along with a disaster recovery site is also being created for hosting the voluminous PLM data generated by the three organisations in a fully secured environment.
In a collaborative approach, MDL, GRSE and Indian Navy will leverage the PLM platform for data management. This initiative is envisaged to result in a digital transformation of Naval Shipbuilding in India.
