New Delhi: In a significant step towards environment protection, NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company has signed E-Mobility Agreements with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for leasing of 25 nos of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and supply of 3 nos. of Electric Vehicle fast chargers to NHPC including its installation & commissioning. NHPC will have the biggest EVs fleet amongst Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in India. NHPC had earlier leased 2 no. of Electric Vehicles through EESL in 2019.

The E-Mobility Agreements were signed through video conferencing on 4th June 2021. The agreements were signed by Shri Rajesh Kumar, GM (Mechanical) on behalf of NHPC and Shri Rajneesh Rana, CGM & Cluster Head (North) EESL/ CESL on behalf of CESL. Shri N.K. Jain, Director (Personnel), Shri Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects) and Shri A.K. Srivastava, CVO from NHPC and Ms Mahua Acharya, MD & CEO and Shri Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairperson, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) were present on the occasion. NHPC has signed the E-mobility agreement as a step towards its commitment towards the environment and on eve of celebrating World Environment Day 2021.

Commenting on the E-Mobility Agreements, Shri A.K. Singh, CMD, NHPC said, “We are glad to expand our EV fleet by associating with CESL. NHPC is dedicated towards the environment and is committed to contribute towards reducing carbon footprints in the country”. On the occasion Shri N.K. Jain, Director (Personnel), NHPC said, “The E-mobility agreement between NHPC and CESL is an important step towards reducing pollution levels and it is fitting that the agreement is being signed between two companies dedicated towards clean environment and reducing carbon emission.”        

Speaking during the E-mobility agreement exchange, Shri Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairperson, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) said, “It is a well-established fact that EVs are the future. The country’s transition towards cleaner modes of transport cannot be fulfilled without mass adoption of EVs and we are delighted to have partnered with NHPC to accelerate this movement.”

A broad MoU between NHPC and EESL to explore opportunities of Energy Efficiency and Conservation measures in NHPC is also under process.
