NLC India welcomes employees who undertook relief works at Thoothukudi

NLC India deputed a team of its Engineers on 22.12.2023 to Tuticorin along with giant water pumps and water lorries, based on a request from the District Collector /Cuddalore to help clear the inundation caused due to unprecedented heavy rain lashed on 18.12.2023 in the southern districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. The flood left several towns and villages marooned and caused lakhs of people trapped inside their homes.

NLC India, which always has extended its helping hand with Social Responsibility during such distressing situations, mobilized 11 nos. of high powered dewatering pumps of capacity around 8000 GPM from its Lignite Mines, with about 70 persons, both executives and technicians from Mines & Thermal Units and Township administration. Required coordination and facilities were also extended for the relief efforts from NTPL the subsidiary company of NLCIL. 

About 6.0 Lakh litres of drinking water from the NTPL’s RO plant was supplied, as part of relief activities, for more than 10 days in 14 areas of Thoothukudi, through the water lorries deployed by NLCIL from Neyveli. The relief activities were well coordinated by the CEO/NTPL providing accommodation, fuel and food arrangements to the entire team engaged in relief activities.The team of NLC India, cleared heavy waterlogging in a period of 21 days’ operation from 22.12.2023 to 12.01.2024 in 15 areas of Thoothukudi district with main concentration at Paramankurichi village, clearing a total of 756.43 Million Litres (2, 67, 13,325 Cu. Ft) of water.

The above effort of NLCIL was well appreciated by the Tamil Nadu Government, Ministers, MLA, MPs and local residents and public. The residents of the affected area, extended a warm send off to the NLCIL team while their returning back and thanked NLCIL for the timely help.

The entire NLCIL team who participated in the dewatering of flood hit area returned Neyveli on 13.01.2024, after having completed their noble service in the food hit Tuticorin area. They were received at NLC Arch gate and honoured with a bouquet and shawl by Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Director/Mines, Shri.K.Mohan Reddy, Director/P&P, Shri Samir Swarup, Director/HR, Executive Directors Shri. Rajasekara Reddy, Shri. Jasper Rose, Shri. Dhabaseelan and other Senior officials and employees.
