New Delhi: NLC India Limited joined the Nation in paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhiji, the Father of our Nation, on his 155th birth anniversary today. The celebrations at NLCIL, Neyveli started off with the garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director, NLCIL, at the Township Administration office premises in the presence of Shri Suresh Chandra Suman, Director/Mines  Director (P & P) AC, Shri M. Venkatachalam, Director/Power, NLCIL and Thiru Appakannu Govindarajan, IPoS, Chief Vigilance Officer, NLCIL.

Gandhiji’s favourite song “Ramdhun” was recited by the members of the Neyveli Ladies Club. Around 75 “Safai Mitras” (Sanitary workers) of NLCIL were honoured by CMD and Functional Directors. Honouring them, CMD Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said that the “Safai Mitras” symbolized the bridge of friendship between all sections of society. A “Swatchhta Hi Seva” and “No to plastic” rally by Jawahar Science College students was flagged off by the CMD.

Later, a function was organized at the Yegneswaran Auditorium, Learning & Development Centre, which began with the recital of the ‘Vaishnava Janato’ song by the members of Neyveli Ladies Club followed by reading of scriptures by various organizations like Shri Ramakrishna Seva Sangam, Indian Christian Cultural Association, Neyveli Muslim Jamaath and Neyveli School students. Cultural programmes including songs, dance presentations and a skit reflecting Gandhiji’s ideologies of non-violence, truth and honesty resonating with the national spirit were staged by members of the Neyveli Ladies Club, Kerala Kala Samithi, Kannada Sangha, Women In Public Sector (WIPS), Neyveli Tamil Sangam, Sneha Opportunity Services, Neyveli Telugu Kala Samithi and Bharatiya Kala Samithi.

On this occasion, the members of the Neyveli Ladies Club led by its President Smt. Radhika Prasanna Kumar Motupalli presented gift kits comprising of Bags, Stationery items and sweets to children of NLCIL elementary Schools.

As a sequel to the above events, an In-House web portal, Application for Compassionate Transfer (ACT) was inaugurated by CMD which facilitates easy submission of application by NLC employees seeking transfer from their workplaces. CMD, Directors and CVO distributed prizes to the winners of the Rangoli competition conducted as part of the Swachhata campaign. Addressing the gathering, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, wished everyone on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.

He also announced a cash prize of Rupees One Lakh for all the participants of the cultural programmes. He went on to pay rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhiji by recalling his contribution to the freedom struggle and global peace. He also underscored the fact that world leaders like the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama were influenced by the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and acknowledged him as their role model.

Stating that NLCIL was planning to triple its present output in the next three years, Shri Prasanna Kumar said that, to make effective progress towards these targets, we should practice Gandhian principles like Teamwork, Stress management, Time management and leading by example which Gandhiji followed and practiced ardently.

He exhorted everyone at NLCIL to follow ethical practices in their daily works to achieve sustainability, which was today’s buzz word. The event was attended by Senior officials, Executives, Employees, Representatives of recognized labour unions, Associations, Welfare Federations, Women In Public Sectors (WIPS), Teachers, and students. The celebrations ended with Community worship arranged at the Villuduyanpattu Murugan Temple, Neyveli.
