NTPC Bongaigaon concludes the four-week-long Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM).

New Delhi: NTPC Girl Empowerment Mission is a model program for entire Bodoland Territorial Region ( BTR), said Shri Anurag Goel, Principal Secretary, BTR, Assam in the concluding ceremony of the four week long Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) held on 12th August,2022 in the presence of Shri Nilut Sargiary, Hon’ble Executive Member of BTR. 

Shri Goel appreciated the talent of the girls who mesmerised the entire gathering through a colourdful cultural program . Shri Goel said that NTPC’s effort towards community development and empowerment has created new vistas for development in the region. Shri Ashim Kumar Goswami, Regional Executive Director(ER-II) who was also present on the occasion as Guest of Honour spoke on the performance of the girls who depicted the cultural and vibrancy of North East. Shri Goswami added NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts in GEM and exposing them to various outbound training that has been the focus of the program. Earlier Shri Subrata Mandal, ED, NTPC Bongaigaon thanked the parents, teachers and the district administration who supported NTPC from day one of the program. Ms. Manjari Goswami, President, Vasudha Mahila Mandal,ER-II, Ms. Jayasree Mandal,President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club also spoke on the occasion. 

The two hours long program saw some amazing performances by the girls who performed a skit on the Ahom hero “Mula Gabaru”, mime show, a colourful dance on north east culture, Bagarumba - the cultural Dance of Bodoland, poetry, group songs and displayed their skills on yoga and self defence. At the end , a colourful fusion with the tri colour flag celebrating the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was also performed on the occasion . Later certificates were presented to the girls who got emotional leaving NTPC premises.

The program was also attended by Shri Induri Reddy, GM( Maintenance), Shri Arunashis Das, GM( Projects) , Shri G M Thangzom, Deputy Commandant, CISF,NTPC Bongaigaon, Ms Neeloptala Choudhury, Chief Coordinator of the program, Hero Mindmine, Ms. Soni Gohain and Ms.Diksha Choudhury, faculties of the program. 

The workshop started at two locations on 25th of April and gradually increased to 24 locations by 3rd week of May and finally concluded on 12 th August, 2022 with total of 33 locations across NTPC stations . The total no. of participants at all locations was 2405 nos. that include 1989 children from BPL families.

During the 4 week residential workshop, apart from basic academic inputs in Hindi, English, Maths, Science and Vernacular Languages, the  girl children were given inputs to learn extra-curricular activities like life skills, yoga, dance, computers, crafts, sports, etc. During workshop, the safety measures were demonstrated by CISF personnel and about health by Doctors.
