NTPC Ltd has set up a 40 MW solar power plant in Ayodhya and the project is said to initiate its commercial operations as per a regulatory filing.

A solar power project being set up by NTPC Ltd in Ayodhya has started its commercial operations by taking the public sector’s commercial capacity to 73,888MW. The complete power generation at the 40 MW solar plant for which the land has been provided by the UP government is expected to commence by March 31.

The 40 MW plant would enable the temple town to develop as a solar city to meet a large amount of its power demand under the state government’s solar policy, which is expected to meet at least 10 percent of the total demand through renewable power.

In October, the Uttar Pradesh New Renewable Energy Development Agency [UPNEDA] which is supposed to be the nodal agency for the development of renewable energy, handed over 80 hectares of government land at a village in Ayodhya Sadar tehsil. NTPC Green Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, is setting up a 40 MW solar project in Ayodhya, UP.
