Vande Metro Prototype to roll out in April: RCF

The Rail Coach Factory in Punjab is planning to unveil the prototype of the Vande Metro coach for intercity travel by April this year as per General Manager S Srinivas. A total of 16 coaches are expected to be developed by the end of 2024-25.

The metro coaches will be equipped with a passenger talkback system to communicate with the train driver in case of an emergency. Each coach will be equipped with 14 sensors for fire and smoke detection. Additionally, there will be a wheelchair-accessible lavatory for coaches.

The gangway joining two coaches will be wide-like corridors to provide a comfortable smooth walk-through in the train. Meanwhile, the 3x3 bench-type arrangement maximizes passenger capacity, providing a comfortable medium-distance commute. Windows and doors are designed for both safety and convenience with the wider opening –abled hopper-type windows for emergencies and good enough space entrances.

Additionally, a new special feature is made to provide hot water in lavatories during winter months. The next rake of 24 coaches will be rolled out in March this year and two more rakes will be ready in the next financial year. 30 more Vistadome coaches in the next financial years will be manufactured after safety clearance.
