PM Modi Pays Tribute to Bharat Ratna M.G. Ramachandran on Birth Anniversary
New Delhi, January 17: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister lauded MGR’s multifaceted legacy and his monumental contributions to the socio-economic development of Tamil Nadu, as well as his efforts in popularising Tamil culture globally.

Background:
M.G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, was not only a legendary film actor and politician but also a three-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was posthumously honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1988. His governance was marked by several pro-poor welfare schemes, and he continues to be an enduring icon in Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural landscape.
