New Delhi: CMPDI employees Dr. Hemant Agrawal, Manager (Mining), CMPDI and Dr. Siddhartha Roy, Manager (Mining) at CMPDI, research paper titled "An Investigation on Influence of Diameter of Blast Holes on Ground Vibration at a Mega Opencast Coal Mine Using Explicit Dynamics", published in the Journal of Mining and Environment, an international peer-reviewed journal indexed in ESCI and Scopus.

The study, conducted at a mega coal mine project in India, investigates how varying blast hole diameters influence ground vibrations, using field data and ANSYS-Autodyn simulations. It reveals that larger diameter holes produce higher vibrations at short distances, while smaller diameter holes result in greater vibrations at longer ranges, even with identical charge per delay.

These findings provide critical insights for optimizing blast design to ensure safer and more efficient operations in opencast coal mining.
