Coal India hikes Workers' Ex-Gratia from Rs 15 Lakh to Rs 25 Lakh: Govt

CIL, the country’s largest coal miner has decided to enhance workers’ ex-gratia in case of any mine accident. The limit has been enhanced from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, as announced by Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy.

New Delhi: In a major boost to compensation for workers of Coal India Ltd. (CIL), the country’s largest coal miner has decided to enhance workers’ ex-gratia in case of any mine accident. The limit has been enhanced from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, as announced by Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy.

While in another significant step, the PSU company will introduce uniforms for all its employees to ensure cultural and discipline unity, including the chairman and managing director.

The Coal India Ltd. has decided to increase the workers’ ex-gratia (in case of mine accident) from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh from September 17, coinciding with Vishwakarma Diwas. Further, it has also been informed through the minister that Coal India will provide additional (accidental) insurance of Rs 1 crore for its employees from September 17 and Rs 40 lakh for contractual workers.

The government had been committed to decreasing dependence on coal imports and saved Rs 60,000 crore by reducing dry-fuel imports last year. The government is also committed to more reforms in the coal sector with facilitation of business and transparency.
