Mumbai, May 27, 2026: A crucial meeting aimed at ironing out commercial and operational challenges between Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) was held on May 26, 2026, at the Mahagenco Headquarters in Prakashgad, Mumbai.

The meeting was led by Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance) of WCL, and Shri Manesh Waghirkar, Director (Finance) of Mahagenco.

 

Warm Welcome & Key Participants

At the start of the deliberations, Shri Manesh Waghirkar extended a warm welcome to the visiting WCL delegation. The discussions saw active participation from senior officials on both sides, including:

  • From Mahagenco: Shri Pankaj Sapate, Executive Director (FM).

  • From WCL: Smt. Indira Swarnalatha, General Manager (M&S); Shri Surojit Sarkar, TS to Director (Finance); along with other senior officers from both organizations.

 

 

Agenda & Discussions

The dialogue was comprehensive and focused on resolving pending issues that impact the power generation value chain. The key areas of deliberation included:

  • Performance Incentives: Reviewing and aligning on incentive structures linked to coal supply and power generation targets.

  • Compensation: Discussing outstanding claims and compensation mechanisms.

  • Coal Quality: Addressing concerns related to the grade, quality, and consistency of coal supplies.

  • Other Commercial & Operational Matters: Tackling logistical challenges, payment cycles, and supply chain efficiencies.

 

Outcome & Way Forward

The meeting concluded on a highly positive and constructive note. Both the Mahagenco and WCL delegations reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger cooperation and enhancing coordination at all levels.

Both leaders emphasized the need for an amicable resolution of all pending issues, keeping the larger interest of the power and coal sectors in mind. The mutual understanding reached is expected to lead to smoother operations and more reliable power generation for the state.
